
Invisible chips will be built by genetically modified viruses...

Genetically modified viruses may one day help to build miniature circuits smaller than the wavelength of visible light.
Researchers at Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California have discovered a way to bind any molecule to the surface of viruses.
This means they can use them as microscopic construction workers to build circuits far smaller and more powerful than today's microchips.
The viruses in the La Jolla experiments already show a mysterious ability to organise themselves into straight lines at right angles on the surface of silicon chips, which could be of great assistance to any circuit designer who wants to build with them.
