Intel has boosted its drive for smaller laptops with a range of processors with low power demands.

The company has been working to develop chips with lower power consumption that can extend the battery life, and fit into slimmer, smaller laptops than current models.

The company announced a processor which does not require a cooling fan - the Ultra Low Voltage Mobile Intel Pentium III Processor - M, cutting down on size and eliminating another drain on battery life.

The processor speeds range from 933MHz to 800MHz in full power mode, and 533MHz to 400MHz in power-saving mode for use with batteries. They consume just 1.15 volts on full power and 1.05 volts in power-saving mode.

The processors include enhanced SpeedStep technology, which automates switching between low-power standby mode and full-power mode.
