Half a million dollars to Mr Kamen (which some might say is more than he'll make from Segway)
Published: 23 April 2002 14:10 GMT
The man behind the Segway Human Transporter, Dean Kamen, has won half a million dollars and the coveted Lemelson-MIT inventors prize.
Kamen won the inventor's crown for his self-balancing scooter, code-named Ginger, that is set to appear in shops later this year, and for his work on an infusion pump designed to give diabetics a better quality of life.
Kamen is the owner of the DEKA Research and Development Corporation and holds over 150 patents.
Ruth Rogan Benerito will be given the Lemelson-MIT lifetime achievement award for the invention of easy care cotton after World War II.
