Consumer electronics giant Sharp has confirmed it is in talks to supply Vodafone with up to a million phone handsets with built-in cameras.
Reports in the Japanese press over the weekend suggested the two may join foces to sell phones in seven European countries. Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai said the deal is for 500,000 phones for autumn this year and another 500,000 by Christmas.
The handsets would allow subscribers to send pictures over the mobile network. This is known as "sha-mail" from the Japanese word for photo - "shashin".
