It's suds law for IBM's cyber laundry

But remember not to put your Big Blues in with your whites...

IBM has revolutionised student life in the US with the launch of a cyber laundry service.

The eSuds system relies on internet-enabled washing machines and tumble dryers, which make it possible for students to keep an eye on their wash while in lectures - or in their rooms - simply by logging on to the web.

Students will be able to find out if there is a washing machine available simply by logging on, and they will then receive an email telling them when it is done.

In total IBM and USA Technologies have installed 9,000 eSuds washing machines across 40 campuses in the US. The system also includes micropayment technology - charging students electronically - though coin-op purists will still be able to use cash.

Although this innovation should definitely free-up more time for students to spend on their 'studies' it may also drive a rift between students and their parents. Traditionally a full bag of dirty washing has been the sole reason for students to return home.
