T-Mobile and Microsoft team up

Windows Mobile OS finds favour with another operator's scalp...

T-Mobile has teamed up with Microsoft for the launch of the MDA III - its first mobile device running on Windows Mobile-based PocketPC Phone Edition.

The device can synchronise with users' Outlook from their PC and has a retractable qwerty keyboard and Wi-Fi, GPRS, GSM and Bluetooth connectivity. The tri-band PDA-mobile combo is available from today for £279.99.

While the MDA III will have improved battery life compared to its predecessor, the MDA II, it will also weigh slightly more and some wireless watchers have expressed disappointment over the relatively low screen resolution of the device.

T-Mobile is now the third UK operator to offer devices on the Windows Mobile OS - Orange added the SPV C500 to its line up of Microsoft devices earlier this year and O2 provides the Redmond-flavoured XDA II.

In other news, T-Mobile has announced a deal with BT Openzone to allow the two companies' customers to roam on each other's Wi-Fi networks in the US and Europe.
