Levin's leaving Symbian

Symbian boss packs his bags for United Business Media

David Levin is to leave the post of CEO at Symbian next year.

Levin has headed up the smart phone operating system company since March 2002 and will leave in April 2005 to become the CEO of United Business Media, which deals with news distribution and market research.

Symbian has yet to name a successor to Levin, who headed up the company after serving as head honcho at fellow handheld firm and Symbian founder Psion.

Since Levin took the helm at the software firm, Symbian has seen a turnaround in its financials. Turnover for the whole of 2001 was £17.7m. The first half of 2001 has seen turnover of £26.6m.

Shipments of Symbian phones have also risen significantly - shipments of the operating system in the first half of the year totalled almost five million.
