Psion is to supply French railway operator, the SNCF, in what amounts to its largest ever contract.
Under the $15m deal, Psion will equip SNCF staff with 11,500 Workabout Pro handhelds. These will enable rail workers to scan barcodes on passengers' tickets and RFID chips on monthly passes.
According to Psion, the SNCF chose the devices for their dual reader functionality as well as their battery life. The RFID functionality is a relatively new addition to the Workabout Pro line, included in the devices since September.
As part of the contract, Psion will also provide support for the devices, which was agreed following a four-week device trial.
