Warnings about the need to insure tech gear don't stop silicon.com readers from carrying several hundred pounds' worth of gadgets around each day.
Recent research has shown most Brits leave home with £1,000 worth of tech gear but most don't insure it, or believe wrongly that their household insurance will automatically cover it.
In a recent poll, the majority of silicon.com readers revealed they carry less than £1,000 worth of gadgets with them each day.
The largest proportion - 38 per cent - say their gear's price tag is in the middle of that range, between £100 and £500, while the second largest group - 23 per cent - carry hardware costing between £500 and £1,000.
A good portion of readers travel light, though, with nearly 18 per cent saying the gadgets they tote around are worth less than £100.
And just a choice few carry their truly expensive gear with them regularly. Five per cent say their gadgets are worth between £2,000 and £5,000, and just five respondents - one per cent of the total - wield hardware costing more than £5,000.
The relatively low total value of readers' gadgets could reflect the falling prices of such devices as a silicon.com poll from earlier this year showed nearly three-quarters of respondents regularly carry at least three such gadgets about their person.
