I have to say that I think the real challenge to RIM (and the other proprietary systems currently making the running) will only come when Open Standards approaches to the mobile messaging challenges firm up.
Thankfully the IETF is already working on IMAP extensions that will, functionally, match and exceed the proprietary offerings with it's LEMONADE working group. When these new standards become commercially known I'm sure we'll see some interesting developments in the 'Blackberry' market.
