I went yesterday to buy an iPhone at an Apple store in NYC. When I got there I discovered that the model I wanted, the 8 gig advertised at $199, would actually cost me $399. This extra $200 charge is due to the fact that I am a current AT&T customer, with about a year left on my contract. I had expected to have my monthly service rates go up from $49.99 to $69.99, but I was stunned to find out that Apple and AT&T were going to charge me an extra $200 to UPGRADE my service!
I left yesterday without buying an iPhone.
