BT Cellnet offers in-flight phone calls
By John Oates
Published: Tuesday 17 August 1999
BT Cellnet has announced that it will make its Skyphone Mobile Connect service available to all its international roaming customers.
Using swipe card technology, BT and BT Cellnet users will be able to take advantage of the telco's Skyphone satellite communications service to make mid-air calls. Calls will be charged to customers' existing accounts.
The service is currently being trialled by over 2,500 BT and BT Cellnet executives.
The move follows Vodafone's announcement last week that it will offer a similar service to its customers - also using the BT system (http://www.silicon.com/a32002 ).
Nineteen airlines now support the Skyphone service.
