One hit wonder: PalmOne rebrands as Palm
So, so long, One...

PalmOne has formally changed its name to Palm, unveiled a new logo and moved its headquarters, the company said on Thursday.

The new logo will start appearing on products this autumn, Palm said. The company has also begun trading on the Nasdaq under a new symbol: PALM. The gadget maker's line of handhelds includes Zire, Tungsten, Treo and the recently launched LifeDrive.

The company announced in May that it was spending $30m to acquire the shares of the Palm brand that were formerly controlled by PalmSource.

PalmSource and the former PalmOne had been spun off from a parent company, an earlier incarnation of Palm, in 2003. At that time, it was decided that PalmOne and PalmSource would share the Palm brand.

The new Palm says its updated logo reflects the brand equity established in the former blue Palm circular medallion. The updated typeface is suggestive of digital content, the company said, and its orange background symbolises energy.

The company's headquarters have moved to Sunnyvale, California, from Milpitas.

Ed Colligan, Palm CEO, said in a statement: "While a lot has changed - our name, ticker, logo and headquarters - our vision remains the same. We believe the future of personal computing is 'mobile computing', and we aim to deliver superior hardware and software solutions so that we can continue to set the bar in the industry."
