Silicon Graphics has released the Cray SV1 vector supercomputer, which can scale to 1,000 or more processors. The company claims the SV1 offers up to eight times the performance of competitive systems, while maintaining a compatible upgrade path for customers with vectorised codes. Priced from £400,000, the line will be shipping from August 1998.
