IBM claims to have broken the 1,000 Mips barrier with its latest high-performance mainframe.
The company said tests prove its S/390 G5 Parallel Enterprise Server is suited to managing disparate tasks on a single platform.
Database applications covering ecommerce, enterprise resource planning and email can be run simultaneously without downgrading performance, according to IBM.
Recent advances in chip manufacturing technology helped ramp the performance of the G5 up to 1,040 Mips from a previous high of 900 Mips.
