Compaq has finally named a CEO and outlined its future corporate strategy.
Michael Capellas will replace Eckhard Pfeiffer, who quit in April. Capellas was previously chief information officer at Compaq, but has been acting chief executive for the last seven weeks.
Capellas said he intends to increase the percentage of machines which Compaq sells direct, from the current level of 15 per cent to 25 per cent by the end of the year.
He also predicted Compaq will increase its share of the PC market "despite some evidence to the contrary".
