IBM has knocked SGI/Cray from the number one spot as top supercomputer supplier. According to the Top500 list, IBM has seen its customer share grow 36 per cent from last year to 141 systems - all RS/6000 SPs.
This is also the first time SGI/Cray have been deposed from the top spot in the seven-year history of the Top500 list.
The list is compiled by Jack Dongarra from the University of Tennessee in the US and Erich Strohmaier and Hans Meuer of the University of Mannheim in Germany. It tracks the use of supercomputers by universities, government labs and various businesses.
