Network Solutions suffers another security breach

Network Solutions' domain name servers were the target of yet another security breach yesterday when over 50 European companies were left without domain names.

In an ongoing series of attacks since the weekend, trouble makers have used hoax emails to redirect addresses causing havoc for a number of Web sites including Adidas.com, Manutd.com and Jamesbond.com.

Domain name registration company WebDNS which has been monitoring the situation said Network Solutions has serious problems with the security policies used to control the way domain names are stored and managed on its system.

German email service provider, GMX, suffered the loss of 50 per cent of its domain name addresses after Network Solutions acted on a bogus email request for their removal. When asked why this had happened, Network Solutions blamed GMX for choosing low-rate security options on its account.
