Retailer Zoom.co.uk claims a quarter of UK web shoppers are still concerned about online security.
In a study of its registered users the company found that one in three females were worried about paying for goods online while only one in five men had similar concerns.
The study comes in the week that Powergen exposed thousands of its users credit and debit card details through a glitch in its web-server.
Jo Mosaku, advertising and sponsorship director at Zoom.co.uk, said it's not clear yet how the scandal will effect online retail in the UK.
Mosaku said: "It depends whether shoppers think the Powergen situation is down to the company's practise or the internet as a whole."
Zoom.co.uk offers a ten point code of practise that will safeguard users online including making sure that the site is secure before paying by credit card and avoid using a debit card.
