
Worldwide semiconductor sales were up $18.28bn in November 2000 despite Flash memory chip shortages during 2000 according to a report by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).

Sales increased across the board by 28.4 per cent from $14.24bn a year ago but the European market grew by only 24.1 per cent in contrast.
The chipsets found in mobile phones, PDAs and Internet infrastructures experienced strongest growth.
George Scalise, president of the (SIA) expects the semiconductor industry to hit targets of $205bn for 2000.
Scalise envisages the industry reaching 17 per cent growth in the first quarter of 2001.
This is the same as the average annual growth rate of the industry for the past 40 years.
