Its PowerEdge 2400 and 2450 servers have been renamed PowerEdge 2500 and 2550 respectively, and include a new chipset, embedded gigabit Ethernet and onboard RAID features. They are intended to focus on SMEs developing internet and intranet infrastructures.
Dell claims its models are more competitively priced than rival systems, and will retail from £1,248.
The company has also re-branded its PowerVault storage and Optiplex desktop range as stripped down versions to help it cater for small businesses.
According to an IDC report published last week, IBM dominates worldwide server revenues, with a 23 per cent market share for the fourth quarter 2000. Dell trailed behind with just a six per cent share of the market.
