Microsoft today announced the release of three products for its Biztalk, SQL and Exchange server ranges.
Published: 20 April 2001 12:28 GMT
Perhaps the most notable of the announcements is the SQL server 2000 Windows CE evaluation edition that allows developers to build corporate applications using an SQL server on a mobile client, such as a PDA.
According to Neil Ward-Dutton, research director at Ovum, the release will plug the gap that previously left developers using a third party database on the Microsoft Windows CE operating system.
Dutton said: "Developers looking at building corporate applications have a major concern over management and control. Taking a software stack is much less risky and easier to control. This makes the MS platform more compelling to them now."
The BizTalk server 2000 announcement centred round the support of the industry standard RossetaNet that standardises documents for B2B exchange.
Dutton commented that although Microsoft is on the late side with this industry support, it shows that the software giant is finally taking customer needs seriously.
Microsoft also announced today that the Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server is now certified to run on any Windows 2000 Datacenter server operating system.
