IBM has signed a massive $908m outsourcing contract with Air Canada to run its entire IT infrastructure, and develop a new range of kiosk technology.
The seven-year deal will see IBM jointly devise a new range of kiosks that will then be marketed and sold on to other players in the airline industry. Air Canada says it wants to set a new standard in the industry.
Air Canada also says it expects to save $130m over the seven years in IT spend. IBM will manage 20,000 desktops, IT support and all application development.
IBM was unable to say how many staff will be moved over from Air Canada under the terms of the deal.
