Oracle has started the first shipments of its mobile-enabled ebusiness suite.

The suite will allow customers to access their e-business applications from a variety of mobile and wireless devices, such as PDAs, smartphones and web-enabled phones.

Oracle is working with Compaq, Motorola and Palm to deliver the wireless service.

A company spokesman said wireless activity is still of interest to IT departments because of its tangible return-on-investment.

The company claims the suite is the final component of Oracle's strategy to offer mobile access throughout its integrated set of technology and applications services.

It is competing with Siebel, SAP and PeopleSoft, within its CRM activity. It is also up against IBM and BEA within its underlying technology platform area.
