Compaq servers to run free once more...
Published: 28 November 2001 12:15 GMT
Intel has finally fixed the faulty Itanium chipset that made Compaq's first Itanium-powered servers fail internal tests.
The Itanium processor which powered the ProLiant 590/64 server had a broken basic input/output system (Bios), the software that connects the hardware to the operating system.
Intel will redesign the chip to include the new Bios and is recommending that other manufacturers include the Bios in all software.
Compaq recalled shipments of the servers following tests.
