IBM feels the pinch

Cost cutting not enough as jobs go...

IBM is laying off 1,000 people in its chip division because of falling demand.

Big Blue said some workers may find work in other areas of the company but about 1,000 jobs are likely to go. This amounts to just under five per cent of IBM's whole chip division.

Redundancies are expected at plants in California, Colorado, New York, North Carolina and Vermont, according to US wires.
