Enron CEO Kenneth Lay has resigned his seat on the board of Compaq as the US government launches a plethora of investigations into the collapse of the energy company.
His decision to quit could not come at a worse time for Compaq - he was one of the board members who voted in favour of its merger with HP.
The proposed merger has come under increasing pressure over the last few months in the face of growing opposition from HP board members.
