US wireless provider Nextel has signed a $234m five-year IT outsourcing deal with EDS.
The deal will see EDS manage Nextel's corporate data centre, database administration, IT help desk and desktop services, a move which Nextel said should save it $140m over the five-year period.
290 Nextel employees will transfer to EDS to provide technical support.
Sun Microsystems will provide the technical platform for the project and plans to work with Nextel on wireless projects.
