Users of Apple's mac.com email system had problems accessing their messages over the weekend.
The free service was blighted by what the computer maker claimed was "essential maintenance" to its email servers.
Apple posted a message on its site on Sunday that said around 20 per cent of customers would be unable to gain access to email because of the maintenance.
However, according to reports on US wires, some users claimed the delays were taking longer than the five hours the company predicted and added that some emails had been lost.
Apple said it was working on recovering users' folders and assured that no emails had been lost.
Apple said on Monday that the recovery was taking longer than previously expected.
