IBM has edged past HP to claim the crown in a series of intensive high-end server speed tests.
Big Blue's p690 Regatta server posted a score of 403,000 transactions per minute on a speed test called TPC-C, compares to a 389,000 score by HP's Superdome machine.
Last November, the performance of the Superdome server leapt after the company sacked an employee who admitted committing industrial sabotage.
Hock-Beng Lim confessed in September 2001 to cutting cables, reformatting hard disks and setting reset commands.
HP ploughed more than $1m into trying to get to the root of the problem.
