Intel brings R&D to Europe

Chips en Catalunya...

Intel has officially opened a major research and development facility within Barcelona's Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC).

It is the chip giant's first microprocessor R&D facility in Europe and will focus on increasing chips' performance while lowering power consumption and heat output.

The facility will be headed by UPC professors Roger Espasa and Toni Juan - both 64-bit architecture experts - and Antonio Gonzalez.
