Virtualisation at the desktop:

For some time, I've been using the VirtualBox virtualizer to run several flavours of Linux on a WindowXP PC.

(Windows can also run on VirtualBox, but Microsoft's licences & "activation" policies make this difficult.)

Even on this very ordinary PC, WinXP and Linux coexist happily; providing the advantages of both.
