HDS unveils storage initiative

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has announced a series of data copying and mirroring products.

The storage giant has introduced Hitachi Freedom Storage NanoCopy - hardware meant to allow point-in-time copies without interrupting end user operations. HDS said the product goes towards fulfilling the company's vision of "data access on any computer, anywhere, at any time, with full data integrity".

Other aspects of the initiative include collaboration with BMC Software to provide back-up for databases without disturbing user services. BMC Software Enterprise Recovery Management will be integrated with HDS' Freedom Storage 7700E remote copy functions.

HDS will also provide remote copy support for IBM's Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS) facility, which allows the mirroring of data and balancing of workload on systems at sites up to 40km apart.
