R&D budget slashed as EMC's belt gets tighter

Most people have to let their belts out a notch or two over Christmas, not EMC...

Storage giant EMC is to cut its research and development spending.

The company spent $711.8m on research during the first nine months of this year, but this spending is expected to decline over the coming quarters.

EMC has been hard hit by the economic downturn, reporting heavy losses last quarter and sacking thousands of staff.
