Storage giant EMC is said to be in talks with the business software specialist BMC over a potential merger.
Quoting internal sources, several US reports claim the two tech companies are already at an advanced stage of discussions.
Analysts claim if EMC was to buy BMC, it would enable the storage giant to become a serious player in the data centre and application software market.
EMC refused to comment.
