IBM has developed a storage system called iBoot which is designed to allow computers to save data on remote devices over a network in the same way computers currently use internal hard drives.

According to US wires, the technology will allow machines to use a central repository to perform their primary data storage function.

This will allow the storage of far greater amounts of data and cut PC maintenance costs.
