Storage is seen as a top priority by most UK IT directors, but many don't see the full benefits of it according to a survey.

The study, commissioned by hardware giant Dell, found that 65 per cent of IT bosses said storage is very important while 59 per cent said their company's understanding of storage is low.

Claus Egge, programme director, European storage at IDC, said in a statement: "Companies increasingly rely on access to information to conduct everyday operations, and storing information in the most reliable, secure and easily accessible way is becoming crucial."

Storage consolidation and disaster recovery were identified as the most important challenges in storage in the future.

The survey questioned 138 IT directors in the UK.
