EMC and HP have signed a cross-licensing deal to increase product interoperability.

The deal will see the two storage giants integrating their application programming interfaces (APIs) into their various storage products. The aim of the agreement is to allow both companies' customers to use the products more effectively and manage the many storage platforms more easily.

Both companies claim their agreement is set to serve the storage industry and its customers better in the future.

Don Swatik, EMC's vice president of alliances and information sciences, said in a statement: "EMC believes this kind of technology exchange can serve as a model for agreements with other companies and thereby accelerate the industry's progress toward solving the interoperability concerns of our customers."
