EMC division Legato has won a $4.3m deal to bring up to date much of the Pentagon's IT infrastructure.
The contract is with the Pentagon Renovation Office (Penren), which overseas modernisation within agencies including the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Army, Navy, Air Force and the Marine Corps.
The storage software provider aims to help ensure continuity of IT operations and its software dovetails with installed EMC data-replication technology. For example, it automates management of any disaster recovery process, ensuring availability and taking IT to another site if deemed necessary.
The contract also includes two years of Legato consulting for deployment and project management support.
Storage giant EMC bought Legato in July last year for $1.3bn in stock, adding to its fast-growing, home-grown software business.
The Pentagon is the central hub for the US armed forces. According to its mission statement, the Penren project involves the phased relocation of 25,000 tenants, removing thousands of tons of hazardous materials, modernising the utility and IT infrastructure and improving force protection and energy efficiency.
