Business could cut the storage requirement drastically by not collecting irrelevant data. Why should a company make it a condition of sale that I inform them of my age or which computer magazine I prefer. Mostly it is a breach of the Data Protection legislation which states that data collected must be relevant to the operation and not kept beyond the time necessary for that purpose or used for other purposes. I help reduce the data overload by not buying from those that demand such data but this is beginning to restrict what I can buy online.
