Toshiba unveils all-in-one optical storage device

Toshiba has taken the wraps of a hybrid optical storage drive that brings together DVD-ROM and CD-RW technologies.

The SD-R1002 drive offers rewriteability and high-capacity storage in a single device.

The aim is to combine back-up with the functionality of DVD-ROM and DVD-Video, and at the same time ensure users have a clear migration path to future recordable DVD devices.

Pricing for the SD-R1002 has yet to be set. It will ship in September.
